Not Folk

Of course, I’m not a folk musician; nor do I pretend to be composing folk music. rather, I have tried, in the sound and sense of Last Forever, to strike a balance between acknowledging my distance from the source of my inspiration and preserving its essential viatlity. While the combinations of instruments in my arrangements have no traditional precedents, I have approximated some idiomatic performance styles, and there is lyrical and melodic quotation throughout. Although there may be nothing remotely “folk” about my methodical part writing, both the scales employed and the resultant harmonies and harmonic rhythms are generall consistent with folk models.
