Baby Sonya

In the summer of 1965, just after Sonya was born, her parents brought her to the Newport Folk Festival, where her father, John Cohen, was performing with the New Lost City Ramblers. Her Uncle Pete (Seeger) opened a program by playing a cassette recording of Sonya crying and saying something like, "Here's the real folk music." In this picture from that time, taken by her father, Sonya is cradled by the extraordinary ballad singer, Roscoe Holcomb, while founding folk fiddler Eck Robertson looks on.
